Adopt a Hydrant
Adopt a Hydrant
2023
Approaching public art as objects of both my individual artistic creation and objects which local residents must live alongside of I find interest in taking inspiration from the public environment itself.
These works are based on Pouch Cove’s “Adopt a Hydrant” program, where the community keeps real hydrants clear of ice and snow over the winter months. Inspired by this act of care, maintenance, and object personification through the act of adoption, these forms which have been developed through a generative 3D algorithm aim to introduce a sense of unique identity and quirkiness to an otherwise standardized object.
Special thanks to the Pouch Cove Public Art Committee and the Town of Pouch Cove for their support in the creation and presentation of this work.
